Empowering disadvantaged communities for a more equitable society

LEC works to address these key issues by providing critical services, operating community advocacy platforms, and building female leadership to create change agents in communities.

The organization was founded in 2008 when the founder – Leah Nyalobo saw the need to respond to the many experiences of child abuse and Gender Based Violence that was rampant in the slum areas yet seen as a norm. She wanted to disturb the structures, the systems, the culture and ultimately the mind set of people from the slum where she was born and bred on the need to create safe spaces for women and children to explore their opportunities.

Her efforts in supporting women and children in the informal settlements and the rural areas grew with time resulting to formalization of her work in 2012 when she registered her organization as a Community Based Organization.

Where we work

Informal settlements mainly Mathare, Korogocho and Kibera . This is because in these slum areas residents lack basic services and infrastructure including lack of proper electricity wiring, sewer and drainage system. People suffer from high rates of poverty, have limited access to quality health care and education and environmental concerns including pollution of natural water sources such as rivers.

Our work also expands in the rural areas where poverty is high and other cultural practices that that enhances gender inequality including Busia, Kakamega and Bungoma Counties where we have satellite offices.

We help keep hope alive

We design, build and support projects and programs that alleviate
poverty, insecurity and stop gender based violence.
